![]() Richard Lainhart One Sound Music Saturday, May 7 Valley Falls, New York State Soundings presents new and recent works for instruments and the Kyma interactive music system, composed and performed by Richard Lainhart. Lainhart has worked in the field of live interactive electronic performance for over 30 years, from the days of analog modular synthesizers and home-made instruments to the latest digital music technologies. His most recent work, for electric guitar, piano, and vibraphone, uses the Kyma System controlled by a Powerbook to transform the tonalities and timbres of each instrument into a single larger instrument, creating music beyond the capabilities of a single performer. In 'An Open Window In An Empty Room', notes and chords sustained on the strings of a grand piano by nine eBows are fed into the Kyma system, which uses a custom granular synthesis program to extend the piano timbres and tonalities. In 'Dreamwood' and 'A Cloudless Sky', the electric guitar becomes the source for Kyma processing, using modulated resonant filters and re-harmonized granular clouds, respectively. 'One Word', premiered at this performance, is for bowed vibraphone and Kyma ensemble. |
