Phillips/Phillips/Delisle/Van Nort

Friday, April 27 at 8:30pm
Cafe Esperanza
St Laurent, Montreal, Canada

An evening of electronics, processed guitar/laptop performance, deep listening and micro-sounds featuring Tomas Phillips (laptop), J. Winston Phillips (laptop, guitar), Sylvain Delisle (laptop and guitar), Doug Van Nort (laptop).

Doug Van Nort is a sound based artist/researcher who resides in Montreal, Quebec. Compositionally he is interested in sounds that may be considered "noisy", "textural" or "dense", and in composing the structure of sound objects/events as opposed to composing "higher level" musical structures. As a performer his interest is in improvisation and working with feedback and other such unpredictable systems.

Winston Phillips is a composer/sound artist currently living in Montreal, Quebec. Having studied in electroacoustic music and sound recording at Concordia University, he has now veered his compositional efforts towards that of microsound, with a focus on treated acoustics. Winston has worked in such mediums as film, video and theater, including sound design for experimental film.

Sylvain Delisle has played electric guitar, bass and upright bass and has performed in various bands including Plywood, Torngat and Placard. Her recent work has focused on improvisation and composition using electric guitar and processing.

Tomas Phillips has composed electronic and electro-acoustic music since his first solo contribution to the Shadow Tape compilation in 1994. He has since released limited edition CDs under the names Sea Optic, Lisbon and Eto Ami (in collaboration with Dean King).
