About the festival This was an unusual festival. Hip Chips included several events that EMF produced in New York City as well as many other events that happened, independent of EMF, throughout the world. Our idea was to create a worldwide festival by documenting, in a single dedicated website, laptop performance events that took place throughout the world between February 10 and June 30, 2005. This site contains documentation of those events. Our goals for the festival were to recognize talent, foster worldwide community, demonstrate the use of music technology to empower individual creativity, and mark for all time the moment in our cultural history when musicians around the world were first using computers as musical instruments.
